Description:
This session will provide a high-level update on Chancellor’s Office and system initiatives that will affect colleges and districts. The Student Success Task Force (SSTF) recommendations will be addressed and technology’s role in implementation, along with other State and legislatively identified issues.
Patrick C. Perry
Vice Chancellor of Technology, Research and Information Systems
Patrick Perry oversees the collection of unitary student records for the 112-campus system, all system wide technology initiatives, and of the Institutional Research unit responsible for all accountability reporting. In this capacity, he oversees many of the centrally-provided technology services to the CCC system, including internet connectivity, electronic transcripts, e-conferencing services, and a common student application. He was recently appointed by Arne Duncan to be one of the 15 members of the “Committee on Measures of Student Success” making recommendations on alternate measures of student success and progress for two-year institutions.

The Campus Computing Project
Kenneth C Green is the founding director of The Campus Computing Project, the largest continuing study of the role of computing, eLearning, and information technology in American higher education. Green also directs the Managing Online Education survey (co‑sponsored by WCET), and serves as the senior research consultant to Inside Higher Ed's surveys of senior campus officials.
An invited speaker at some two dozen academic conferences and professional meetings each year, Green is the author/co‑author or editor of a dozen books and published research reports and more than 100 articles and commentaries that have appeared in academic journals and professional publications. He is often quoted on higher education and information technology issues in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside Higher Education, and other print and broadcast media. His Digital Tweed blog is published by INSIDE HIGHER EDUCATION.
In October 2002, Green received the first EDUCAUSE Award for Leadership in Public Policy and Practice. The award cites his work in creating The Campus Computing Project and recognizes his "prominence in the arena of national and international technology agendas, and the linking of higher education to those agendas." A graduate of New College (FL), Green completed his Ph.D. in higher education and public policy at UCLA.

Stan has been President of ISSA-LA since 2006. In addition to serving as Chapter President, Stan is the President of Citadel Information Group which he co-founded in 2002 with his business partner, Kimberly Pease. Citadel provides information security management services to business, government and the not-for-profit community. An information security pioneer, Stan has secured teleconferencing at the White House, databases inside Cheyenne Mountain and the communications network controlling our nuclear weapons arsenal. In addition to his work in the information security field, Stan has been a management consultant and was COO of an online learning company. A frequent speaker and writer on securely managing critical information assets, Stan earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Michigan.

OpenCCC & OpenCCCApply, New Systemwide Services for the Colleges

Description:
OpenCCC is the California Community Colleges federated identity initiative. OpenCCC uses standards‑based, open source specifications to insure privacy and security while allowing access to applications within the California Community College. OpenCCCApply is the new Web 2.0 application to colleges and will be the first system wide web service offered within the OpenCCC Federation. The goal of OpenCCCApply is to increase service for colleges and students while significantly lowering the cost. Find out how your college can get connected to these new, cost effective services being released in 2012.

Mobile Applications: Meeting Students and Staff Where They Are

The North Orange County Community College District has developed mobile applications for all three of the district's institutions. The applications (available for Android, iPhone, iPad and BlackBerry) have been developed and are now in full production. Included in the offering are campus maps, news feeds, grade lookup, student schedule, faculty and staff directory and class schedule. The applications will be demonstrated and the presenters will talk about the development environment, lessons learned, best practices, marketing strategies, future plans and the tools used to make this a collaborative development effort across the District.

Secure Single Sign On and Attribute sharing with CAS and Shibboleth in Portal/ERP Systems

Colleges need to be able to offer single sign-on services that include portals, ERP, LMS, financial aid. Santa Barbara City College has implemented shibboleth and CAS (Central Authentication Services) to provide secure authentication and pass attributes to college and non-college owned systems. Discussion will include a review of the authentication design and architecture supporting multiple campus applications (STARS/DARS/Moodle/DreamSpark/Google Apps etc.).
